Theme:  Video: Soldering the Pendants

I thought I’d share a little peek into the fun I have making these little bits of wearable art:

Soldering the Pendant Edges – Closeup from Stony Silence on Vimeo.

This video shows how I solder the edges of my glass pendants. I like a thick rounded edge to frame the glass, so I lay the solder on pretty thick. I hope the close up shot at the beginning is helpful to anyone just starting to learn to solder these types of things. The music on this short video starts very quietly but gets louder quickly. So don’t turn it up without keeping near the volume button!

Since I haven’t been posting many pictures to the blog, I thought the silence was getting a little too stony around the website here.
Just because I’m not selling my jewelry, doesn’t mean I haven’t been having some fun in the workshop! Here’s a little video to liven things up and show you what I’ve been up to and how I start the process of making my soldered glass pendants.

I am constantly fiddling with the packaging for my jewelry, but I thought  you might like to see a sample of how your order will arrive.  Here is a photo of the current gift box configuration … until I fiddle with it some more, that is!

This is somewhere along the line of what you can expect when you order a necklace or pendant from Stony Silence.  The little box is only about 3 inches long. I think it looks rather cute when the gift box is presented in a small brown gift bag with a simple ribbon or raffia.  (brown bag not included … but that’s a thought , now, hmmm?!)  :-)

What do you think?

All of my jewelry and findings are lead-free & nickle-free, of course. Upon request, I will happy to switch the chain with another choice such as:

  • Silverplated Chain in polished or antiqued finish.
  • Brass Link Chain in antique gold finish.
  • Classic Ball Chain in silverplated, brass or stainless steel.
  • 925 Sterling Silver Chain (at additional charge).
  • Black or brown leather cord
  • Black, brown or cream colored satin cord
  • Waxed cotton cord in several color choices

Whew! That’s quite a list! But my pendants seem to look good on just about every type of setting, if I do say so myself! I will be adding a page with close up photos of choices soon.

Update:  Okay, here are those photos I promised you!  The “next photo” arrow is below the pics in the slideshow. The pictures quite large, so that you can really see the detail of the chains.  You may have to scroll down to see the navigation below the photos.

I’ve finally taken some photos of my necklaces before I send them off to the shop for their debut! I have added them to the Jewelry Page now and I guess if one sells on the website, I’ll have to hightail it on over to the salon and snatch it right back! I haven’t really figured out the mechanics of having one-of-a-kind items for sale in two places at the same time. Update: Pieces with a “buy-it” button are now kept ready-to-ship, here in the studio.

There are two distinct lines in my Pendant Collection. The “Inchies” (one inch by one inch mixed media artwork) framed in tiny little handcrafted polymer clay shadowboxes. Wearable art, for sure. Some have glass windows and some clear resin windows.

The second line, my soldered glass pendants, are a little bit larger (1″ wide x 1.5″ or 2″ long). They are also two sided, whereas the inchies have a solid textured back, the soldered glass pendants have an image on the back as well as the front, encased in glass on both sides. It’s created in the style of stained glass, which is one of my current obsessions (among many).

Welcome to my brand new Stony Silence website.

I really didn’t want to build yet another website; but I guess if I want to share my handmade creations with the world, I’m just going to have to do it …

So … Here I go again!
