Thank you for all the nice comments about my last video and label freebie. And especially for the good wishes and prayers for my son.   I really appreciate your kindness.   We are still trying to get to the root cause of his medical problems, but might be making some progress.

One of the issues are seizures that happen once or twice a week, always at night, that sometimes render him “frozen and staring” for hours.  I sit beside him in bed, and wait it out, so he is not going through it alone.   A few months ago, I took up hand embroidering to pass the time while Casey endures his “episodes.”   It’s something I’ve always wanted to learn, but never took the time to sit down and do.  It’s weird that it took something like a complex partial seizure to make me finally pick up an embroidery hoop.  But there you go;  life is weird that way, huh?

I  quickly admassed quite a stack of embroidered scraps and  did not know what the heck to do with them.   I decided I’d better stitch them onto something like a tote, or make a canvas journal and stitch them into the pages.  This idea made me break out my 20 year old Kenmore sewing machine, to stitch a canvas book or tote. One thing led to another and the next thing I knew, I was buying a new sewing machine with a drop-in bobbin, and self-threading needle mechanism… and what’s that you say?  It’s only $100 more to get the one that can machine embroider? Well, how could I resist?

I didn’t open the box for several days, telling myself “I have a sewing machine. Why do I need a new one? I don’t need it. I should return it.” Eventually, I opened the box and never looked back. Brother SE400, Where have you been all my life? I LOVE YOU! You make me a craftier person! I thought I was a lousy seamstress; but as it turns out, I just had a lousy sewing machine!

Theme:  Video: A Little Tag and Cardmaking Trick

I haven’t posted a blog entry in a very long time, due to health crises with my son. But I find immersing myself in making something, a welcome and necessary escape from the stress of all that.

It all started with my “materials notebook” slowly morphing into more of an Art Journal. Before I knew it, I was papercrafting and cardmaking up a storm. I had to do something with all that beautiful paper I’ve been collecting.

My hand-lettering is not yet card-worthy, so …While searching online for a good way to print, stamp or write a sentiment on my cards, I came across a great post by Kay at  Her amazing download freebies inspired the following video and my own take on her original design.   Her generosity also inspired me to share my version as a freebie.  Link is below the video.
