Jewelry

My jewelry designs have a distinctly rustic quality to them. I don’t go to extraordinary lengths to make them “perfectly finished and polished” as this would be contradictory to (what I hope is) their handmade charm!
……………….

Many of my designs include mixed metals so that they can be worn with both gold or silver jewelry that you already wear daily. Some pendants are strung on a leather or cotton cord which goes with just about everything!

Emma’s Dell – Necklace

Emma’s Dell  was inspired by a Wordsworth poem, which hopefully you can make out in the photo #6, below .  I adore the line “this wild nook, my Emma, I dedicate to thee.” A hidden special place, for someone he held dear.  (they say Emma was  his sister, but the verse is so romantic, I’m not buying it).   The  pendant is printed on cream colored card that I aged with a quick wash of coffee.  I think a little bit of the coffee seeped into the resin as it cured, and I like the sepia effect it imparted.  It has a red Swarovski  Crystal, ringed in bronze and embedded into the resin window.  My favorite part is the tiny antique brass locket, which opens to reveal yet another teeny tiny red crystal.  There’s something about this one that feels mysterious or protective.  I guess because the locket is so tiny, you wouldn’t think it would really open, much less  have a little treasure inside.

The pendant is shown here on the antique brass link chain but also looks lovely on a delicate bronze colored 1mm ball chain that closes with a little lobster claw clasp.  (see photo #2 below).  The back side of the frame is deeply stamped with a corrugated texture.  I love this one!

‘Contemplating Flight’ Necklace.

Contemplating Flight

A pensive bird on a branch with ceramic drop in shades of green and black. The print is a line drawing in black on cream background with a light wash of green. Pendant measures just a little over 1″ x 1″ square, not including the beaded drop. With the drop it measures approx 1.75″ in overall length.

This 1″ bird print is framed in a handmade black polymer clay frame with subtle silver specks incorporated into the clay. The print is protected in a clear resin window and adorned with silver and goldplated embellishments. The drop is a gorgeous speckled green glazed ceramic bead on an antique brass pin.

The pendant hangs on a 20″ antique brass chain. It closes with a lobster claw clasp and I’ve added a little black bead at the end, so that you can wear it at a shorter length and still have the back of the chain look pretty and finished.

Eiffel Tower in Black and White: Inchie necklace

Vintage B&W photograph of the Eiffel Tower framed in a black polymer frame and clear resin window. The frame has a matte finish, but has subtle silver flecks incorporated into the clay that give it a sort-of steely look. Embellished with a brushed metal star and a red beaded & silver dangle. This pretty 1″ square pendant hangs on an 18″ antiqued silver plated chain.

Cultivate Your Garden: Inchie necklace

A red ladybug on a background of sheet music adorns this cute framed inchie. The frame has a buffed matte black finish and the backside has a random hammered texture. Embellished with a pretty antiqued silver leaf in the upper corner and a tiny fresh water pearl dangles below. This sweet 1″ square pendant hangs on an 18″ antiqued silver plated chain finished off with a bitty little red bead.

ART DECO – Necklace

This striking pendant hangs on a substantial silver-plated chain with a polished finish and lobster claw clasp.
It is embellished with a pewter bead inside the frame, and a Tibetan silver and beaded drop. The handcrafted frame has a pewter mica finish that has been sealed in a protective matte coating. This piece, (all of my pendants really) should not be considered waterproof, however, and should not be worn while swimming or bathing!

The framed pendant measures just over 1 inch x 1 inch, the beaded drop adds another 1/2 inch to the length.

I usually like to wear necklaces on a longer chain (22 or 24 inches) but since I started making these pendants, I think the shorter length works because of the pretty dangly little gems.  On a shorter chain or cord, all the pretty stuff doesn’t  get hidden under your collar!  That’s the way I sees it, anyway.   But you may prefer a longer chain and I’m happy to oblige.  Just put your request in the comments box at checkout. (16″, 18″ 20″ 22″ or 24″ … you get the idea).

Soldered Glass Pendants
These are not photographing as well as I hoped. I will have to experiment with the lighting and try again to capture the true finish. It’s not highly polished, but not dull either (as they appear in the photos for some reason).
Just Peachy Glass Pendant

Just Peachy

Two sided glass pendant is framed in a rustic lead-free silver soldered edge. The pendant measures about 1″ wide x 1.75″ long (not including the bail or beaded drop). It is strung on a 20″ brass ball chain with the classic simple connector.

.

The neat thing about the ball chain/connector setup is that it is so very easy to customize the length to your liking. Simply snip off unwanted chain length with a pair of scissors or kitchen shears and pop your connector right back in place! I also love the casual old-school look of the ball chains; and the clean simple style keeps the focus on your cool pendant.

“Nocturnal”

NocturnalAnother lovely soldiered glass pendant, this one with a two gorgeous vintage owl images encased in glass on each side. The top and bottom bails on this piece are particularly rough-hewn. I was experimenting with wire to make a more ornate version of my usual bail; when the result came out a little more rustic than I expected. I couldn’t bring myself to correct it, because I just liked the effect so much! (Embrace imperfection, I like to say. Gee, I think I’ll put that on a pendant next). I decided it called for an equally rustic embellishment made up of a copper disc, a carved bone bead, a smaller black bead and roughly twisted wire headpin. I hope you like it as much as I do. It is strung on a 16″ waxed cotton cord which has a 2″ extender chain in case you want to wear it a little longer sometimes.

REST NOT: Soldered Glass Necklace

“REST NOT, Life is Sweeping By.”

restNotThumbnailOne of my favorite Goethe quotes because it says so very much in just a few words. It’s such an inspiring sentiment that I included it on both sides of this glass pendant. The full quote reads: “Rest not. Life is sweeping by; go and dare before you die. Something mighty and sublime, leave behind to conquer time.” but that wouldn’t exactly fit on this 1″ x 1.75″ pendant. Besides the shortened version says plenty!

This is another one of those designs that incorporates both yellow and white metals, so that it works with everything. Hung on a 20″ long brass ball chain (easily shortened as described here) and adorned with an antique brass sparrow in flight, and two tiny peridot colored crystals dangling beside her. It’s lovely!
